A Vision Shaped by Adversity
A Vision Shaped by Adversity
When public schools across Myanmar closed during 2021 and 2022, many children faced an uncertain future. For Dr. Timothy Mang and his wife, Lily, this was not simply a crisis to observe. It was a call to act. What began as deep concern for the children in their community gradually became a clear and settled vision: that a private, English-medium school could give those children a genuine path forward.

From Conversation to Commitment
The idea took shape gradually, discussed on journeys, refined over time, and shared with trusted colleagues. When Dr. Timothy Mang presented the vision to his faculty, the response was immediate and unanimous. The need was real, the moment was right, and the decision was made to move forward. He named the school Elpis, from the Greek word for hope, expressing the founding belief that a child who receives a quality education is a child with a genuine future. That conviction is still the heartbeat of everything we do.

Where We Stand Today
Through a partnership with an accredited American university curriculum provider, Elpis gained access to a rigorous, internationally recognised program of study that has equipped the school from its earliest days to hold a high academic standard. Elpis International School opened in 2022 as a private, English-medium K–12 institution in Yangon. It remains a young school with a clear sense of direction, committed to developing students of excellence, integrity, and purpose. The founding vision has not diminished. It is only beginning.
